// CCA
These are some photos that i took during cca on wed. Yup, secretly took w/o the consent of the people in it. That's what makes photo-taking so fun!! :D and irritating too :P As you can see from here, our cca is quite 勤劳 one. More programming... Even SK is doing his part as an alumni to help repair the racer. As for the guy beside SK, i really dunno who he is. Anyone knows? Okay, lols. This is 超 ironic lor. Ooh! Is that a piece of Lego? ( this is 100% random, i found it among the photos, so might as well add this in) Weiling, Christabel and Xinyu (from left to right) drying the track by using small pieces of tissue to absorb the water. Hey! I found lots of toilet paper! Finally, sth much more practical :D Jane looks super elated here. Sian, still not dry yet... and the track's gone all messy... Why is the track sooooo wet? You can choose to believe in either one of the options: 1. KQ they all dun allow Gerald to go toilet, so he... 2. Jane spilt her water, cos of clumsiness like always. Anyway, thanks to those who helped dry and align the track! Your hard work has paid off! Oh, and i stumbled upon this picture in my camera. I think it looks quite cool, so here it is Five guys looking at one robot, and 1 guy looking at the other 5 guys. Haha :) "You better pass hor..." Okay, i'm very sleepy already, so i'm rounding this off :) BTW, the 体育表演 is really very nice to watch! Esp, the way they ended the performance. I wouldn't mind goin back to school on Sat to watch it all over again.

// Chinese translation
Okay, I admit that this post is weird, but teachers want it up. It's about the chinese translations of the various commonly used terms of Robotics. Just because it's in CHINESE doesn't mean it's not worth reading. Later those chinese visitors come then you all dunno how to communicate we GG. Just know at least some of them will do. This is for your general knowledge. Oh, and 人非圣贤,孰能无过. If you find anything wrong or inappropriate, leave a comment at the tagboard.

// New Rule---Be Warned
The Anglican High School Robotics Club (AHSRC) blog was created to keep members updated about events happening in between sessions so as to decrease the lack of communication and failure to notify members about upcoming members in time. Past attempts had been made to tackle this problem but to no avail. There was the method which I called the "Calling Method", where seniors had to waste their precious time and money just to ring up members one by one. This proved to be very troublesome, tiring and time-consuming, depriving the seniors of play and sleep sometimes. There was also another method which was the "Call-And-Pass" method which consists of seniors calling a selected group of people and then these people will call other members and the message gets passed around. This also proved to be useless. "To err is human...", some members forgot to ring up other members and thus the message was cut off. Finally after much careful deliberation, we, the second batch of committee, had came up with the idea of using a blog, where information is just minutes away. Members can simply turn on their computers and connect to the internet and read. This idea was came up by the previous batch but was not put to good use. Now, we had succeeded in making the blog and also patched up the lack of communication. We also enjoyed our fruits of labour. This blog was created specially for seniors to come and update members in a highly efficient way. By asking members to check the blog daily, we achieved the goal of communicating everyday, even during the holidays. Members were also given a tagboard to voice out their comments so that we, the committee, can further improve on our system of communication. HOWEVER, from what we can see, the tagboard has not been put to good use and lately there had been SPAMS from the 3Us people: UN-accomplished, UN-honourable, and UN-servant-leader-like. By talking crap on the tagboard and disrupting others from reading the correct information, they are UN-accomplished. By pointing fingers at others when and making a joke out of them, they are UN-honourable. Lastly, by making a joke out of the tagboard, they are not respecting the seniors and their hard work for creating the blog, thus making them UN-servant-leader-like. THUS, WE HAD DECIDED TO IMPLEMENT A NEW RULE. THIS RULE TACKLES THE PROBLEM OF SPAMMING: NO SPAMMING ON THE TAGBOARD OF AHSRC BLOG. PUNISHMENTS: 30 PUMPING. NUMBER OF REPEATED OFFENSE WILL TIMES THE PUNISHMENTS (E.G. 30X2, 30X3, 30X4, ETC...) BY USING THE TERM "SPAMMING", WE REFER TO MORE THAN 3 TAGS COMING FROM THE SAME PERSON IN A ROW. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! -Your not-so-happy-with-the-spams Chairman, Kia Qian

// NXT Training
After the Mid-Year Examinations, there will be NXT Training for a few people by professionals. The dates are confirmed to be on 21 and 22 May 2008, which is on a Wednesday and Thursday. This only applies to the selected as listed: Amanda Tan 3K, Phua Kia Qian 3F, Tan Lee Hao 2J and Joe Lee 1G. Further information will be posted as soon as possible. These people are to make yourself free on the training days. After which, you are to teach the rest of the club on what you have learnt. You are, in one way or the other, their teachers now. This will be vital as the secondary ones and twos are taking part in the NJRC and they need to know how to use and programme the NXT program by themselves. There would not be any seniors there to guide you so it means that you are completely on your own. Thus, I urge the secondary ones and twos to pay special attention to the people teaching. -Your very wonderful Chairman, Kia Qian

// Reminiscence
About 3 years back, I was still a Sec 1, a fresh graduate of Fengshan Primary School. I enrolled into AHS with a relatively high T-score compared to the general cohort and was also 8th position for PSLE T-score in FSPS. During the Dec holidays when I was still Pri 6, I participated in the Orientation Camp. I escaped the choir audition by trying out softball. I passed the session and was enlisted into their CCA. However, few weeks later, we were given a form to select our CCA choices, ranking them in your own preference from 1 to 5. Being ingenuous at that time, I thought I was not in softball and thus, I felt like trying out something new and hence, wrote Robotics as my first choice of CCA. It was its first year as a core CCA. On that very day, my fate has been set. After another week or so, class lists were being pasted on our class notice-board about the CCA that each of us had been posted. For Aaron Elton and I, we both were in the same class since Sec 1 and both also had been posted to Robotics. I can still now recall vividly on what happened during our first CCA session. At that time which was 3 years back from now, our CCA room was actually the current The Eagles' Nest (TEN). Each of us slowly reported for CCA punctually and were welcomed by Mrs Tan and a few boxes of LEGO. She briefed us and we soon were given the task of sorting LEGO. Throughout the sorting session, the ambience was tranquil and serene with almost null conversation between my batch. Subsequently, after several questions, we know each other better and also made good friends with our seniors at that time. About 2 years back, I was given the designation as "Head of RoboGP". I was only a Sec 2. Taking up this post means more things to do and plan. As my batch is the first core batch, we have been involved in a lot of planning and they do prove useful as learning experiences. I had to come up with training schedules, be well informed about RoboGP (competitions) and also handle all the logistics with regards to RoboGP. During that year, the current Sec 3s come in. Welcoming them, we interacted much with them as the population of the club was still very little. Together, we took part in various competitions and were sent to attend workshops held by external vendors. We also had trainers for competition such as NJRC etc. About 1 year back, I felt uneasy wearing the long pants. I notice a trend - as we grow older, the boys' pants will be longer while the girls' skirts will be somehow shorter. It felt peculiar to wear those long pants as I feel much warmer in them. Shortly, we were all used to wearing them. Being Sec 3s, we were already now the seniors of the club and of course, the current Sec 2s join us. At that instance, we were indeed having an increment in our population. During July, I was elected as the Chairman of the Robotics Club. Indeed, quoted from 2002 Spiderman movie, "With great power comes great responsibility". I was immediately given advice and guidance from the former chairmen and alumni. From there, I learnt more about agendas, minutes, admin things, proposals, AAR and so on. All those began to be part and parcel of my life as a CCA Leader. One of the main events that I organised with my batch was the Farewell Party Camp in school. About 3 months back, we welcomed our new Sec 1s and also had the welcome party which was apparently, one of the last few activities that my batch had to plan other than the handover. By this time, all of us had grown. The Sec 1s who came in 2 years back are now already Sec 3s, the seniors of the club. They will soon takeover the club from our hands. About 3 weeks back, I had conducted the interview and handover ceremony. Now, the Sec 3s are being empowered to bring our CCA to greater heights. I have seen them grow since they were Sec 1s, so cute and innocent to being Sec 3s, where maturity had already kicked in. They are now able to plan, execute and do most of the decision making. Now, it will be also their turn to be working hand in hand with the teachers and among themselves. Of course, I had a meeting with them, passing down all related documents and guide them on their jobscope etc. Today is my last day for CCA. Indeed, these 3 years and 3.5months had just passed by within a flash. There were times when even I, the former chairman of Robotics Club, felt languid about attending CCA. Yet, there were also times when I felt very enthusiastic and zealous about my CCA. It was tough trying to balance both my studies and CCA. One has to be committed in both aspects. As said by Mdm Hidayah, our journey had been "full of ups and downs" but it had more ups than downs. Being the first batch of core committee was rugged too, as the Chairman, I had to be responsible for my people and I was given a committee of 10 to lead. I also had to draw a line on many things. Personally, I feel that my days in AHSRC had been fruitful and fun. Thanks a lot for all and this opportunity to be your Chairman (2007 - 2008) and I hope that I have done my part well in bringing Robotics Club onto greater height. We were always deemed as a slack CCA but in fact, we are not. I hope that you people can correct this misconception of theirs. It was also through AHSRC where I learnt teamwork, time management, strategies and so on. Indeed, I came up with those sabotaging programs for LEGO RCX and used them before to our opponent for fun. I will always remember the competitions that I took part with you guys and this nickname - "小K" that you guys give me. During NJRCs, I can remember those bored moments while waiting for the runs, yet freezing in the Science Center and being quarantined together. This year's RGP holds the most memory. Thanks for teaching me how to play CS and allowing me to play your laptops when mine was away in repair. I learnt how to use a Magnum sniper rifle in dust2 map. For the IRO2007, I will always remember Justin's idol and the intense argument which we had with the judges. Thanks for those who came to support us too in the competitions! Thanks everyone! =D Now, it's the new committee who are running the Club. Please learn from the mistakes which my committee had made and work to improve them. All the best people! Do seek my advice if you guys encounter any problems or have any doubts. Both the teachers and I have high expectations of you all. I believe you guys can do it. ^^ Yours trulySK AHSRC Chairman (2007 - 2008)
